AREQUIPA, Peru – After his vacation in Cuba, a Russian tourist returning to his country was involved in an incident during the flight that could have ended in tragedy. According to News.ru, to the shock of the crew and passengers, the man attempted to open the airplane’s emergency exit door.

The individual, identified as Alexei, was immediately restrained with belts and disposable plastic handcuffs until the plane landed in Russia, approximately 12 hours later.

Suddenly, the man began shouting and cursing, according to passenger testimonies. Although the crew intervened, their attempts to calm him down failed. The Russian abruptly jumped out of his seat and tried to open the emergency exit door.

Once handcuffed, Alexei spent several hours shouting, cursing, and demanding to have his hands untied. Additionally, he accused the flight attendants of intimidation and even began banging his head against the wall.

The plane, which had departed from the Island, eventually landed at Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow, where the passenger was handed over to the police.

Less than a year ago, a similar incident was reported on flight SU/FV6927 of Rossiya Airlines between the Russian capital and the resort town of Varadero. In November 2023, another passenger became aggressive and belligerent, threatening the safety of those on board.

Exhibiting “destructive” behavior and allegedly intoxicated, the individual had to be deported to Russia after Cuban immigration authorities barred him from entering the country.

In 2023 alone, the aforementioned Russian airline reported 678 cases of disruptive behavior on its flights, more than 50% of which were related to passenger alcohol consumption.

In recent years, the Cuban regime has adjusted its struggling tourism offerings to attract Russian tourists. Today, Russians rank third among the nationalities visiting the country, behind only Canadians and Cuban emigrants.
