HAVANA TIMES – Hurricane Oscar quickly formed on Saturday above Haiti and the Dominican Republic and is moving on a west-southwest track, reports the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

A hurricane warning has been declared for the north coast of the provinces of Holguin and Guantanamo and a hurricane watch for Las Tunas.

Also under a hurricane warning are the Turks and Caicos Islands and the southern Bahamas.

A tropical storm warning is also in effect for the south coast of Guantanamo and the north coast of Camaguey and Las Tunas.

Conditions in Eastern Cuba are expected to deteriorate on Sunday. The center of the hurricane is expected to reach land by Sunday night into Monday.

With the country already suffering this weekend from a nationwide blackout it may be more difficult for people to get information on the path of Oscar.

At 11 PM (ET and Cuba time) the center of Oscar was located 70 miles (115 kms) west of Gran Turk Island and 365 miles (590 kms) from Camaguey, Cuba. The hurricane is packing 85 mph (140 kph) maximum sustained winds and is advancing at a speed of 12 mph (19 kms).

We will have an update on Hurricane Oscar on Sunday morning.
